M Series Trim Styles: Professional, Contemporary, Transitional

Wolf builds one thirty-inch M Series cavity and sells it behind three fronts. A drawing that says only “Wolf 30-inch single” has skipped the decision that sets the controls, the door mechanism and the face projection.

Reading the front off the model number

The suffix names it. TM is the transitional front, PM the professional, CM the contemporary; contemporary then splits into stainless and black glass, listed apart in the current design guide. That split is the only one that moves a published figure.

The contemporary front has nothing to pull

Wolf is direct here: the contemporary oven has no handle, and is opened by pressing on the door. Soft self-open carries it the rest of the way, and there is no resting point partway — shut, or wide open. The arrangement is mechanical, so the door still works on an afternoon when the oven does not.

Knobs instead of a screen

Transitional and contemporary ovens take the mode and the temperature on the touchscreen; the professional turns both in on knobs. One consequence sits in the manual rather than the brochure: the All Off indicator the other fronts show during a clean cycle is absent from a professional, where the knobs go to Off.

Which front is harder to square

On a flush inset the face stands seven eighths of an inch proud in transitional, professional and contemporary stainless, a full inch in contemporary black glass. On a handleless door that projection is the whole visual event: no handle line draws the eye off a tapering reveal.
